Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning matchup where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined over 50 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB announced this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 different languages.
